The Point is expanding it's offerings by forming strategic partnerships with local agencies and community volunteers to provide services that meet critical needs on the Westside of Kalamazoo County.
FINANCIAL CLASSES & SERVICES
Christian Alexander Wealth Advisors is a local company founded by certified financial investory, Stanley Steppes. Steppes is a member of the Board of Directors here at The Point and devoted financial educator. As a service to our community, Steppes offers free classes such as our "Good Steward Classes" on personal financial management and investments to help navigate their dollars and sense. He also provides one free one-on-one session for any individual or family interested, by appointment, in our counseling office at The Point. The Point has also hosted other financial classes, including Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
During the course of the year, The Point provides free and reduced-cost classes and workshops on healthy living and eating. We host events sponsored by outside groups, such as Bronson or the American Red Cross, that provide information or services. We also maintain a holistic approach to fitness. In the Fall of 2009, we hosted a free, four week nutrition class to promote healthy choices for food by a nutrition expert. As we grow, we hope to offer more and more classes that engage families in choosing healthy options for staying strong and healthy!
COMMUNITY & RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
The Point is about connecting people. We currently provide space to various school system for sports programming. We are proud to be able to open our doors to local programs needing space, and to help give the community a space to congregate. We also host special interest groups, such as El Centro, that provide free English as a Second Language (ESL) services to non-English speaking families. We are proud that volunteers and foreigners alike are building relationships while honoring their cultures and learning the language.
EMPLOYABILITY SERVICES
The Point is also networked with a variety of professionals with experienced Human Resource backgrounds that are available by appointment for coaching. Our volunteers have assisted in interview preparation and resume writing. Our hope is that, as our economy is recovering, that we can assist our neighbors in re-entering the job force with confidence and courage.
We are excited about engaging in this aspect of our community and are looking for ways to provide additional services that help this growing population in our neighborhood.
